STORYLINE
National Lampoon’s Van Wilder follows Vance ‘Van’ Wilder Jr. (Ryan Reynolds), a legendary student at Coolidge College who has purposefully avoided graduating for seven years. Van spends his time hosting extravagant campus parties, helping underprivileged students, and becoming an iconic figure on campus. However, his easygoing lifestyle hits a major roadblock when his wealthy father, Vance Wilder Sr. (Tim Matheson), realizes his son is still in college and cuts off his tuition payments.
To pay for his final year of tuition, Van launches a lucrative party-planning business alongside his loyal assistant Taj Mahal Badalandabad (Kal Penn). Meanwhile, Gwen Pearson (Tara Reid), a journalist for the college newspaper, is assigned to write an in-depth article about Van. Although initially skeptical of his juvenile antics, Gwen begins to look past his party-boy persona as she spends more time with him, sparking jealousy from her arrogant medical-student boyfriend, Richard Bagg (Daniel Cosgrove).
As Richard repeatedly attempts to sabotage Van’s reputation and academic standing, Van is forced to face his underlying fear of graduating and stepping into the real world. Packed with slapstick humor, memorable gags, and romantic beats, the film highlights Van’s journey toward maturity as he takes his final exams, helps his friends succeed, and pursues a genuine connection with Gwen.
