STORYLINE
Walinong Sari is an acclaimed Malaysian animated short film based on a famous folklore legend from Pahang. Set in ancient Malaya, the story centers around Princess Walinong Sari, a fierce, highly skilled warrior princess of Inderapura. Unwilling to yield to societal expectations or accept an arranged marriage purely for political convenience, she sets off on a journey down the Pahang River disguised as a commoner to test her skills and forge her own path.
During her travels, Walinong Sari encounters Raja Mambang Segara, a celestial prince from Mount Tahan who has descended into the mortal world. Unaware of each other’s true royal identities, the two engage in an intense silat duel that tests their martial prowess. The battle turns into mutual admiration, sparking a deep romance between the warrior princess and the heavenly prince, though their bliss is soon threatened by forces from the celestial realm.
Directed by Eugene Soo and featuring voice performances by Nadia Aqilah as the titular princess and Bront Palarae as the celestial prince, Walinong Sari combines stunning visual animation with traditional Malay culture and silat art forms. The film serves as a powerful tribute to female empowerment, indigenous heritage, and timeless Southeast Asian mythical storytelling.
