Badla

Badla is a gripping Indian mystery thriller directed by Sujoy Ghosh, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles. The film is an official adaptation of the acclaimed 2016 Spanish film ‘The Invisible Guest’ (Contratiempo). The story revolves around Naina Sethi, a highly successful young entrepreneur and married mother, who finds herself embroiled in a nightmare after being arrested for the murder of her secret lover, Arjun. Found in a locked hotel room with Arjun’s corpse and a large sum of money, Naina maintains her innocence, claiming they were victims of a mysterious blackmailer.

To prepare her defense, Naina’s attorney hires Badal Gupta, a legendary defense lawyer who has never lost a case in his forty-year career. With only three hours before a crucial witness testimony, Badal visits Naina at her apartment to reconstruct the events of that fateful night. As Badal relentlessly interrogates Naina, she reveals a dark backstory involving a tragic car accident on a remote road that resulted in the death of a young man named Sunny, whose parents have been desperately searching for him.

What follows is a tense, claustrophobic battle of wits between the lawyer and his client. Through multiple flashbacks and shifting perspectives, the narrative exposes layers of deception, greed, and betrayal. As Badal systematically dismantles Naina’s alibis, the truth behind both the car accident and Arjun’s murder begins to unravel, culminating in a stunning, high-stakes climax that redefines the entire mystery.
