Exhuma

Exhuma follows a wealthy Korean-American family living in Los Angeles who experiences a series of inexplicable paranormal events, threatening the life of their newborn baby. Desperate for a cure, they commission the services of a rising shaman duo, Hwa-rim and Bong-gil. Hwa-rim quickly senses that a dark ancestral shadow—a curse known as the ‘Grave’s Calling’—is looming over the family, tracing the source of the affliction back to an unmarked ancestral grave located in a remote, sacred village in South Korea.

To safely exhume the body and appease the restless spirit, the shamans enlist the expertise of Sang-deok, a renowned master of feng shui (geomancer), and Yeong-geun, an experienced mortician. Upon arriving at the burial site, Sang-deok is horrified to find that the grave lies on extremely cursed, ominous ground. Despite his warnings, the team proceeds with a complex exhumation and pacification ritual. However, the process goes terribly awry, accidentally unleashing a malevolent force that had been buried deep within the earth.

As the entity begins to terrorize the group and the family, the team uncovers a deeper, historical conspiracy buried beneath the grave, linking the curse to Korea’s painful colonial past. The film masterfully blends traditional Korean shamanism, folklore, and historical trauma into a highly atmospheric, terrifying occult thriller that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats.
