STORYLINE
Jabariya Jodi is an Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy-drama film directed by Prashant Singh and produced by Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, and Shailesh R. Singh. Set against the backdrop of Bihar, the film revolves around the real-life social phenomenon of ‘Pakadwa Vivah’—a practice where greedy grooms demanding exorbitant dowries are kidnapped and forcibly married off to brides without any monetary exchange. Sidharth Malhotra stars as Abhay Singh, a ruthless local thug who leads a syndicate carrying out these forced marriages as a form of social vigilantism.
The storyline takes a dramatic turn when Babli Yadav (Parineeti Chopra), a fiery and independent woman, re-enters Abhay’s life. Having shared a romantic connection during their childhood, their feelings for each other quickly resurface. However, Abhay is reluctant to commit to love due to his political ambitions and his father’s pressure to maintain their local dominance, leading to personal and ideological conflicts between the two leads.
Determined not to lose Abhay, Babli decides to turn his own tactics against him by planning a forced wedding of her own. Blending lighthearted comedy, high-energy musical sequences, and action-packed moments, Jabariya Jodi offers a unique take on small-town traditions, dowry social issues, and turbulent romance in rural North India.
