Jarhead (2005) – Story, Cast, War & Ending

Directed by Sam Mendes and based on Anthony Swofford’s 2003 memoir, Jarhead offers a raw, unglamorized look at the Gulf War through the eyes of a U.S. Marine sniper. The film follows Swofford (Jake Gyllenhaal) from his brutal recruit training at Camp Pendleton to his assignment as a scout sniper alongside his spotter, Alan Troy (Peter Sarsgaard). Under the strict leadership of Staff Sergeant Sykes (Jamie Foxx), Swofford and his platoon are deployed to the Arabian peninsula in 1990 for Operation Desert Shield.
