Tumbbad

Set in the cursed, perpetually rainy village of Tumbbad in Maharashtra, India, the story spans three generations of a family plagued by insatiable greed. It centers on Vinayak Rao, who seeks a hidden ancestral treasure guarded by Hastar—a sinister, forgotten deity cursed never to be worshipped. After discovering the secret to accessing Hastar’s subterranean womb, Vinayak regularly risks his life to steal gold coins, using flour dolls to distract the monstrous entity.

As the years pass, Vinayak accumulates immense wealth but remains unsatisfied. He eventually trains his young son, Pandurang, to assist him in these perilous descents, passing down the toxic legacy of greed. The tension escalates as their ambition blinds them to the growing dangers of the curse, leading to a terrifying and morally resonant climax.
