Mike Judge’s cult classic satirical sci-fi comedy Idiocracy follows Joe Bauers, an aggressively average U.S. Army librarian who is selected for a top-secret military hibernation experiment. Alongside a prostitute named Rita, Joe is placed in suspended animation. However, the experiment is forgotten when the officer in charge is arrested, leaving Joe and Rita asleep for five centuries.

Upon waking up in the year 2505, Joe discovers a dystopian society where natural selection has favored the ignorant, resulting in a population that is profoundly anti-intellectual, illiterate, and entirely dependent on corporate marketing. The environment is collapsing, the economy is in ruins, and the nation’s crops are irrigated with a sports drink called Brawndo.

Because of his average 21st-century intelligence, Joe is identified as the smartest man alive. He is quickly recruited by the eccentric President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho to solve the country’s food shortages and ecological crises. Joe must navigate this bizarre, hyper-commercialized future to save humanity from its own collective ignorance and find a way back home.
