STORYLINE
Remy is an exceptionally talented and idealistic young rat living in the French countryside, gifted with a highly developed sense of smell and taste. Unlike his clan, led by his practical father Django, Remy dreams of becoming a gourmet chef, inspired by his culinary idol, the late Auguste Gusteau. After a chaotic escape from their home, Remy is separated from his family and ends up in the sewers of Paris, eventually discovering that he is directly beneath Gusteau’s famous restaurant.
At the restaurant, Remy spots Alfredo Linguini, a clumsy new garbage boy who accidentally ruins a soup and tries to fix it with disastrous results. Remy intervenes and corrects the soup, making it an instant hit with customers. Since humans despise rats, Remy and Linguini form an unlikely alliance: Remy hides under Linguini’s chef hat, controlling his movements like a marionette by pulling his hair. Together, they climb the culinary ranks, winning over the tough co-chef Colette Tatou and challenging the tyrannical head chef Skinner.
The ultimate test arrives when the cynical food critic Anton Ego visits the restaurant. With the kitchen staff walking out upon discovering Remy’s identity, Remy’s rat clan steps in to help cook. Remy prepares a peasant dish, Ratatouille, which deeply moves Ego by reminding him of his childhood. The film concludes with Gusteau’s closing due to health code violations, but Remy, Linguini, and Colette successfully open a popular new bistro, ‘La Ratatouille,’ where humans and rats coexist happily.
