STORYLINE
Directed by Chris Sanders and adapted from Peter Brown’s bestselling novel, The Wild Robot follows ROZZUM unit 7134, affectionately known as Roz, a futuristic helper robot that becomes shipwrecked on a desolate, uninhabited island. Driven by her core programming to assist, Roz initially tries to fulfill tasks for the island’s wild inhabitants, only to be met with fear and distrust. To survive in her harsh new surroundings, Roz adapts her software to decode animal behaviors and communication, gradually blending into the natural ecosystem.
Roz’s life changes irrevocably after an accident leaves an orphaned gosling in her care. Naming the young goose Brightbill, Roz takes on the unexpected responsibility of motherhood with the guidance of Fink, a cunning but friendly red fox. Together, they work to teach Brightbill how to swim, fly, and prepare for the upcoming winter migration. In doing so, Roz transcends her mechanical limitations, cultivating genuine affection, empathy, and a tight-knit community among the island’s diverse animals.
Conflict arises when Universal Dynamics, the corporation that created Roz, sends recovery droids led by the ruthless Vontra to retrieve her and erase her evolved consciousness. Refusing to let their protector be destroyed, the island’s wildlife unites in an all-out effort to defend Roz and their shared sanctuary. The Wild Robot stands as an emotionally resonant spectacle exploring nature, technology, maternal devotion, and the power of self-discovery.
