STORYLINE
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, based on Tom King’s acclaimed comic series, follows Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, as she travels across the galaxy alongside her faithful hound, Krypto. Unlike her cousin, who was raised on Earth by loving foster parents, Kara witnessed the destruction of Krypton and spent her formative years on a drifting chunk of her ruined home world, watching those around her perish. This harrowing upbringing leaves her with a far darker, world-weary perspective on the cosmos.
When a young alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll seeks vengeance against the ruthless galactic outlaw Krem of the Yellow Hills for murdering her father, Kara is drawn into an epic interstellar crusade. Together, they embark on a gritty journey across uncharted worlds to bring Krem to justice. Throughout their peril-filled voyage, Kara is forced to confront her past trauma, redefine her purpose, and determine what kind of symbol she wishes to represent in an unyielding universe.
Directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, this landmark entry in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s re-imagined DC Universe (DCU) Chapter One: Gods and Monsters promises a vastly different tone from traditional superhero narratives. Blending grand science fiction spectacle with deep emotional resonance, the film delves into themes of grief, revenge, and redemption.
