The Electric State

Set in an alternative, retro-futuristic 1990s in the aftermath of a devastating technological war, The Electric State follows Michelle, an orphaned teenager navigating a ruined American landscape dominated by giant, decaying drone ruins and passive, tech-addicted humans. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she is contacted by a sweet but mysterious yellow robot, whom she quickly realizes was sent by her missing younger brother, whom she previously believed to be dead.

Determined to find her brother, Michelle embarks on a perilous cross-country journey across the American West. Along the way, she reluctantly teams up with Keats, a smuggler and war veteran, and his joke-cracking robot sidekick, Herman. Together, they venture deep into a surreal, hazard-filled exclusion zone where the line between humanity and artificial intelligence has completely blurred, uncovering a massive conspiracy behind her brother’s disappearance.
