The Marvels (2023) – Story, Cast, Action & Ending

Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel, has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. However, unintended consequences see her shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary named Dar-Benn, her powers become entangled with those of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel) and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau.

This cosmic entanglement causes the trio to physically swap places whenever they use their light-based abilities simultaneously. To resolve this chaotic phenomenon, the three heroes must band together, learning to coordinate their teleportation-like swaps. They embark on a galaxy-spanning mission to stop Dar-Benn, who is using a pair of ancient Quantum Bands to siphon resources from other planets—including the water of Aladna and the sun of Tarnax IV—in an attempt to restore her dying homeworld of Hala.

In a high-stakes climax, the trio confronts Dar-Benn as she attempts to tear open a jump point to steal Earth’s sun. The resulting instability tears a hole in the fabric of space-time. Monica Rambeau makes the ultimate sacrifice, using her energy-absorption powers to seal the rift from the alternate universe side, leaving her stranded. Back on Earth, Kamala is inspired to recruit other young heroes, while Carol moves into the Rambeau home, determined to find a way to bring Monica back.
