The Outsider

Set in post-World War II Japan, The Outsider follows Nick Lowell (played by Jared Leto), an imprisoned American soldier who manages to escape captivity with the help of his Yakuza cellmate, Kiyoshi. To repay his debt to the Osaka-based Shiromatsu clan, Nick enters the dark and dangerous Japanese criminal underworld. As he proves his loyalty and ruthlessness, he begins his ascent through the ranks of the Yakuza, becoming the first-ever foreign member of the syndicate.

However, Nick’s integration into the clan is met with deep resentment and hostility from rival factions and traditionalist members, particularly Kiyoshi’s brother-in-arms, Orochi. As tensions escalate into an all-out gang war between the Shiromatsu and the rival Seizu clan, Nick must navigate betrayal, cultural barriers, and extreme violence to protect his new family and secure his place in a world that constantly views him as an outsider.
