The Woman King (2022) – Story, Cast, Action & Ending

Set in the 1820s, The Woman King follows General Nanisca, the formidable leader of the Agojie, an all-female warrior unit dedicated to protecting the West African Kingdom of Dahomey. Under the newly crowned King Ghezo, Dahomey faces severe pressure from the rival Oyo Empire, which profits from capturing and selling enslaved people to European traders. Nanisca leads the rigorous training of a new generation of warriors, including Nawi, a headstrong orphan whose determination and spirit challenge the established discipline of the elite regiment.

As war becomes inevitable, Nanisca uncovers a deep personal connection to Nawi, revealing secrets from her own painful past. Together, the Agojie orchestrate daring raids and intense battles against the heavily armed Oyo forces led by General Oba Ade. The film combines breathtaking battle choreography with rich emotional depth, illustrating the sacrifices, sisterhood, and tactical mastery required to liberate their captive people and defend Dahomey’s sovereignty.
